LED Light Therapy: What is it and why do we use it so much?
If you know us, you know we’re bonkers for our OmniLux LED light. It’s one of the most used tools in our office. But what’s all the hype and do they really work? The short answer is YES, these lights are amazing at healing and repairing the skin.
Our In-Office OmniLux LED Light
LEDs are light-emitting diodes. They emit one particular wavelength of light at a time. Unlike sunlight, which has UV rays which damage our skin, these LEDs have no UV.
Each particular wavelength will impact the skin in a healthy beneficial way. LED penetrates deep into the skin and triggers natural intracellular behavior. OmniLux Red 633nm will increase ATP, which is like food for the cells and gives the cell ENERGY! Red 633 also stimulates growth factors and fibroblast, and increases type 1 pro-collagen. This anti-inflammatory wavelength makes significant improvements in edema (swelling), erythema (redness) and bruising. Red 633 is excellent for fine lines and wrinkles, photo damage, post procedure bruising and overall rejuvenation. You can use this device as a stand alone treatment or 2 times a week for a month for plumper, healthier skin. Or you can add this on to any procedure to help heal, soothe and nourish the skin.
OmniLux Blue 415nm irradiates the p.acnes bacteria that cause acne. When the bacteria absorbs the light, a small amount of singlet oxygen is created and kills the bacteria. Blue 415nm is both antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. If you have acne the protocol is 2 times a week for a month. We use the Red Light as well because the anti-inflammatory effect reduced the redness associated with acne lesions and by reducing the inflammatory response, this helps minimize acne scars. Also, the Red Light stimulates fibroblast and collagen and rejuvenates the skin in the area making it healthier.

This device has a large head and *all the right* wavelengths. The protocol is easy to use (3 nights a week) with noticeable results in about 8 weeks. Quite frankly, during this time, it’s one of the very best ways to keep the wrinkles at bay and keep the skin firm and tight. Just because we’re closed doesn’t mean you can’t keep your skin looking good!
