What you NEED to do NOW if you're over 40 ⛰️
EXFOLIATE. As we age, skin cell turnover slows down. We need to keep the layers of our skin turning over regularly. Young, healthy skin turns over about every 28 days. As we age it slows down, so at 40 our skin is turning over every 40 days. When we exfoliate the top layers of the skin, the body works to replace that layer, thus turning the cycle back on. Exfoliating removes old dead skin, makes skin softer and smoother, and gently resurfaces fine lines. Be careful though, if overused you can have some redness, dryness and flakiness. Try office faves Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight and Lactic Acid.
USE HYALURONIC ACID. As we age, we dry out a little. Just like collagen and elastin, HA decreases over time. HA is like a drink of water for your skin. It’s a natural moisturizing agent that helps retain water in the skin, lubricate tissue and plump the skin. I like to use it as a layering agent, best used in conjunction with nice, emollient moisturizer. Our office favorite is HA Intensifier because it helps your body naturally create more HA on it’s own, and quench the skin.
USE ANTIOXIDANTS & SUNSCREEN – NOW AND FOREVER. We all know about sunscreen. But did you know that antioxidants protect from further skin damage? They also reduce inflammation, brighten the skin, and stimulate collagen. Day antioxidants will always include a Vitamin C. Night antioxidants can include resveratrol and CoQ10. Try C E Ferulic, Lumivive for AM & PM for amazing results. Do I even need to elaborate about sunscreen? (Just a reminder, sun wrecks your skin.) Best sunscreens on the market are any EltaMD product. Use them!
USE A FACIAL ROLLER OR GUASHA TOOL. If you know us, you know we love high tech tools, but these low tech, easy-to-use tools produce BIG results. Face rollers and guasha help improve circulation, drain the lymphatic system, and reduce puffiness and swelling. They also provide a facial massage that relaxes facial tension and promotes elasticity. We love the Rose Quartz Facial Roller and Rose Quartz Guasha Tool.
USE FACIAL & BODY OILS. The days of breaking out from oils are probably gone. There are so many fantastic facial oils that reap beautiful results. Most importantly, oils moisturize but often contain antioxidants and soothing agents, as well. Oils soften wrinkles, reduce inflammation and protect your skin. I’m into layering, so use them early in the layer: 2nd in the morning after Vitamin C, 2nd in the evening after Retinol. The two I’m currently obsessed with are this (and worth every penny) but this is my tried and true.
USE TECHNOLOGY. High tech lasers, radio frequency devices and microneedling are expensive but they work. Trust us.
NEVER GIVE UP. Keep on using power packed products and doing treatments in the office. You won’t regret it!
