Upper lip lines (or) Smokers lines and I don’t even smoke!
I know, you've never smoked a cigarette in your life.
It’s so unfair to wrongly characterize ALL of us. Those pesky upper lip wrinkles that make us crazy. By simply living, laughing, eating and drinking we are developing upper lip lines. Well thankfully we’re not going to tell you to stop all that activity but there are some things you can do to mitigate and soften those upper lip wrinkles. History shows us the best results come from combination therapies.
Our best cases have been from clients who commit to several different treatments to really attack those upper lip wrinkles on several levels. These wrinkles develop from repeated use. The underlying muscles are dynamic, meaning they move. A LOT. When we treat upper lip wrinkles we may suggest several different treatments including fillers, microneedling and Botox. There isn’t one magic bullet! Here is an overview:
Stop using straws:
For two reasons.
Straws are bad for the planet.
Straws give us wrinkles.
And be careful with your camelback. Look for a narrow mouth Nalgene bottle.
Botox for upper lip wrinkles:
Yes, a tiny bit of neuromodulator can soften and smooth the wrinkles above the lip. No you won’t dribble, but you WILL have a hard time grasping the straw. (that’s the point!) Some clients find it too subtle, others LOVE it. Try it!
Fillers for upper lip lines and wrinkles:
An absolute yes! Fillers have come a long way in the past few years. We have a couple af fantastic products specially designed for upper lip wrinkles. FIllers will literally fill in the wrinkles. You want something soft, flexible, durable and NOT voluminous. The mouth is a very busy area (ask your husband). Fillers in the upper lip can last 6-9 months so retreating is essential. With repeated injections you will have some collagen stimulation so the wrinkles will start looking better from the inside you. You may need more than 1 syringe to treat all the wrinkles.
Laser resurfacing, microneedling and Intensif for upper lip lines and wrinkles:
Fillers fill in the wrinkle and resurfacing makes the wrinkle smaller and softer. Resurfacing will require several treatments. Resurfacing softens the wrinkle by making micro wounds. When we make micro wounds the skin repairs itself, stimulates collages and smooths the skin. By repeatedly resurfacing the skin the wrinkles soften. Skin is smoother and tighter. We have a few different options for resurfacing including Laser Resurfacing with the 1540, Intensif RF Microneedling and Microneedling.
