How does 1540 Laser Resurfacing work?

Fractional skin resurfacing with Palomar 1540 uses laser energy microbeams to create areas of affected tissue that extend through the epidermis into the dermis. The body’s natural healing process creates new, healthy tissue to replace the areas of affected tissue, resulting in healthier, younger skin. After treatment with the 1540 Laser, the body’s natural healing process creates new more organized collagen. The deep penetrating laser beams stimulate collagen and skin repair mechanisms, which rejuvenate the skin from the inside out, smoothing the appearance of wrinkles, scars, pigment and other issues. After your final treatment, improvement should progress for several months as you collagen continues to remodel and the skin condition improves.

How many sessions do I need?

For best results, 3 to 5 sessions are suggested, spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart. Staggering the sessions is safer and healthier for your skin.

Does 1540 Laser Resurfacing hurt?

Only mild discomfort has been reported, and has been best described as prickly. To ensure minimal discomfort, we can use a topical numbing cream on the skin, administered one hour before each session.

How much down time can I expect?

You will experience a mild sunburn sensation for about an hour immediately following your 1540 Laser Resurfacing treatment. The skin may have a pinkish tone for 3 to 7 days. This is a normal sign that the skin is healing. Flaking and bronzing, which are part of the normal healing process may occur and are temporary. Slight swelling may occur and is generally mild and will resolve in 3 to 5 days. Like a sunburn, some clients may peel. While healing, avoid direct sun exposure and wear at least a 30 SPF sunblock at all times.
